In sum, Narumi Sushi is a gem in La Mesa for those seeking authentic Japanese flavors served with care and passion. It’s a place where the food truly speaks louder than the surroundings—offering memorable tastes that keep guests coming back time and again.
To be honest, I was going to give one star — because of the service. Our order was ready, and we were just waiting, while the cashier was chatting in the corner. We even made eye contact, but they just ignored us. Later I realized it was self-service — apparently, the lady was waiting for me to come *right in front of the register.* I was already standing there — what was I supposed to do, stand at attention? Clearing tables when customers leave is your responsibility — yes, they did clear them, but at least wipe them down instead of just standing around doing nothing. There was no trash, but there were food residues. How much can someone clean with a napkin anyway? Honestly, if I were a server, I’d wipe down and straighten the tables as best as I could and try to be helpful. Just standing there doing nothing would really bother me. Now, about the food — it was the best sushi I’ve had lately. And here’s my theory: if the server is bad or the owner is rude, the food is *always* amazing. It never fails.
I’ve been coming to this place since 2021 It is a great little shop with great sushi dishes. Recommendations: - seared smoked Salmon roll - Louisiana roll - baked / fried California roll - any poke bowl I’ve also posted an updated picture of their menu, as things have changed over the years.
There is no table service. You order at the register and if you're lucky, you can dine in. The space is very small. Fairly priced menu. We enjoyed the sushi. It reminded us of Japan!
The Yaki Soba was large. Heavy on the oil, but overall it was good. Cramped dining. I forgot to take a pic of the posted hours for dining area use, but pickup/takeout is available. Very popular with with takeout orders and the kitchen is fairly fast.
Delicious sushi! I ordered to-go and the process was so simple to pick up. Small place, not tons of seating, but obviously oriented towards pick-up convenience. Will surprise you because the quality is so good for such a small place!! Wonderful texture on rice, good portion for price, and really fresh fish. Will return for sure.
Narumi Sushi is one of my favorite spots for sushi I’ve ordered from here multiple times and it never disappoints. The sushi is always super fresh and incredibly tasty. My friends and I come here whenever we get the chance—it’s kind of our go-to place for something delicious. They prepare everything really fast too, which is awesome. Great food, fair prices, and consistently good service. Highly recommend checking it out—you won’t be disappointed
A tiny spot (authentic to Japan spots) serving up an extensive menu including Udon, katsu, sushi & sashimi! We dined in, though it became clear to us that this place is well known for takeout too. The cream cheese wontons are not your typical appetizer. Handmade and bursting with cream cheese, these were a delightful appetizer. We got the seven samauri's sushi sampler and the submarine roll with avocado added to it. Both were well portioned and made to order. The submarine roll was soooooo good though and I strongly recommend it. We felt the value for what we got was worth it and we're happily considering this our new spot for sushi.
